Adobe Firefly review

Legally clean image AI, sitting where designers already work.

Ranked 1 of 4 in Images Overall rank 4 of 17 Adobe Free tier

Editorial verdict: First choice for professional design work with an approval process, where retouching is the real strength.

Firefly is the image AI for organisations where somebody is liable. Adobe states that it trains its models on licensed stock and public domain works, and offers business customers protection against copyright claims. Anyone who has to get campaign imagery approved knows what that promise is worth.

Its real strength is integration: generative fill in Photoshop, vector graphics in Illustrator, quick variants in Express. Instead of importing images from a separate tool, the AI stays part of the familiar workflow, including layers, masks and versioning.

On raw image quality Firefly has to give ground. Its output looks clean but rarely surprising. For retouching, cut-outs and expanding an image, though, it beats any prompt-only generator.
